Pier Avenue Gardens

Santa Monica, CA
1997-2001
Bill Nicholas: project designer for Nancy Goslee Power
The challenge of these gardens was to create a series of distinct beautiful outdoor spaces in the residual areas of a small residential lot in Santa Monica, CA. No space was taken for granted. Even the usually neglected side-yard was transformed into a beautiful place: the Calla Lily-lined, pebble-mosaic walk is interrupted by a King Palm that foretells what lies ahead. A palm grove creates a delicate canopy under which to enjoy the California sun and the views across the lily-pond to the textures and gardens beyond.
