Mr. Marcel

gourmet market / restaurant
Located in the old Farmers Market, a historic landmark in Los Angeles, Mr. Marcel includes a large gourmet market as well as a classic French bistro. The focal point of the market is the kitchen-service area where prepared foods as well as fine meats and cheeses are displayed and sold. Beyond the deli counter, the concept was to create a relatively raw industrial space where well-illuminated merchandise is the focus. The wine room, often used for "tastings" is treated as a private oasis enveloped in rich wood casework. The bistro includes bar height dining as well as free-standing tables. The separate spaces are linked through the use of painted wood slat walls and panels providing a repetitive pattern. Along the wood slat walls are display boxes featuring wine and special products from the market.
